1/144 Ground Type ZZ Gundam

Originally featured in the September 2000 issue of Dengeki Hobby Magazine (DHM), Ground type ZZ is a variation of the MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam (read: Double Zeta.)

ZZ Gundam is unique, wherein it transforms into three flight capable components: Core top, Core Fighter and Core Base. (links) Core Base requires the Neo Core Fighter to operate, but Core Top and Neo Core Fighter can operate independent of each other as long each has a pilot. These three components can combine into G-Fortress, a single flight unit.

The ground type variation can only transform into G-Fortress mode. In this tank configuration, the unit can roll on caterpillar treads and launch artillery.

Ground ZZ G-Fortress Tank

Notable changes made in this variation:
  • Shortened Knee stabilizers
  • Shortened handheld machine cannon
  • Forearm and Shoulder armor removed
  • Shoulder and calf treads added
  • G-Tank Style Long Range cannons added on backpack
  • Joint cover on long range cannon

Other changes I want to add:
  • Combat knife
  • Dust covers for joints
  • GM style head visor
  • Remove vernier
  • Add chest Vulcan (like RX-79 [G])
  • Add grenade launchers
  • Vent covers
  • Forearm shields

Honestly, I really like the simplicity and grunt feel of the RX-79 [G] Ground Gundam.
My purpose is to apply the same concept to the ZZ Gundam. I still need the HGUC ZZ Gundam for the base unit.

Aside from the redesign and gimmicks, the paint job will really help add the desert feel.

For the sake of simplicity, I’m not going to worry much about maintaining the core top and core base configurations. I haven’t decided about the Neo Core Fighter yet- which is independent of the main model in the HGUC version.

In general, I think a core fighter (as an escape pod) is useful. At this point, I have no idea how to ‘desert-ify’ the core fighter.

This project is on hold for further concept design and the acquisition of models.
